Things to Do to Survive Lockdown!
In this time of uncertainty many of us are spending our days at home, whilst it is great to spend more time together as a family, there’s only so many episodes of the Simpsons you can watch before you go stir crazy. Here is our guide to keeping busy, happy and healthy during these difficult times:
Tackle that DIY project
We all have them, the untiled floor, that flower bed in the garden, the room that is in desperate need of painting. Well now is the perfect time to get stuck in. If you have children at home, get them involved in your project and help them learn some new skills. There are always more jobs to do around the home than there is time, so make the most of it whilst you can.
Take your Exercise
Exercise might be a dirty word to you and something you avoid at all costs usually, but there are more than just fitness benefits involved. Getting out every day for some fresh air is vital for our health and wellbeing, even saying hello from afar to passers-by can help with that social interaction you will no doubt be missing out on. Try and mix it up a bit, maybe take up running, go for a bike ride with the kids or a walk through the countryside taking in the scenery.
Learn a new Skill
Even if you are still able to work from home, you may find that you have lots of extra time on your hands in the evenings. Learning a new skill can help keep your mind active and give you a sense of achievement. There are lots of things you can do, the internet is full of information to help you learn a language, instrument or simply learn more about a subject that really interests you.
Fall in love with Cooking
Everyday cooking when you are in a rush is more of a chore than anything else, so why not take a look at the back of your cupboard and get creative, using up some of the ingredients than you might not normally use. You could make a pie from scratch, bake some bread or try out some new recipes from around the world. Get the family involved or take it in turns to make a meal.
Reconnect with Loved ones
Our lives are all incredibly busy and it’s easy to get into a rut with loved ones or feel like you don’t spend enough time just talking. It could be that a weekly phone call to your parents becomes a more frequent one, especially if they are having to self-isolate. Ban technology for an evening and play a board game, host a watch party with your friends on Facebook or simply sit and spend time in each others company. It’s amazing how little time we have just to be with each other these days.
However you chose to spend your time, please follow the Government advice and stay safe!
